A pool deck has the hardest job in the yard. It is wet a lot of the time, and the people using it are sometimes running and sometimes barefoot.
Traction first
A medium broom finish or a textured stamped pattern gives safe footing even when wet. Polished and sealed slick surfaces look wonderful in catalog photos and behave badly in the rain.
Barefoot comfort
- Choose lighter color tones where sun exposure is high.
- Add a score pattern small enough to break up heat lines.
- Add shade through the landscape if you want the actual comfort improvement.
Drainage
Water should move away from the coping and the house rather than around the pool. Slope, deck drains and the joints all have to be part of the design.
Material choices
- Stamped concrete for the wide range of looks within the pool area.
- Broom finish for the cleanest, lowest maintenance surface.
- Pavers where the design needs to be intricate.
Design the deck for a wet, barefoot child. Then finish it for the photos.
We build the entire sequence around the pool, from demo to the finish texture. Ask for a family-oriented set of samples during the estimate.
